Sunday marks my first Mother\u2019s Day as a mother.\u00a0 It\u2019s a holiday I\u2019ve longed to celebrate for many years.\u00a0 Before my son \u201cJoJo\u201d was born, I didn\u2019t realize I could love one person so immensely. The Mama Bear instinct to fiercely protect my baby was innate. And now that he\u2019s about to walk, (pulling himself up on furniture, cabinets, and walls) I chase after him while simultaneously ordering gates, sliding locks, safety catches, bumpers and socket protectors from Amazon. JoJo loves standing at the top of the stairs holding on to the gate and shaking it like a jailed cage bird. The wooden stairs were recently covered in plush carpeting \u2013 thank goodness.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are born of love, love is our mother\u201d \u2013 Rumi<\/p>\n

My husband often rolls his eyes and refers to me as a helicopter Mom<\/em>. (He\u2019s the father of two older daughters). \u201cJoJo will fall, bump his head and cry \u2013 you cannot childproof his life,\u201d warns the experienced <\/em>father.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s a true statement.\u00a0 Even though I can\u2019t child-proof<\/em> his life, I can certainly educate myself and teach JoJo how to be resilient, kind and courageous.<\/p>\n

Last week, we visited a nursery school where I asked the Admissions Director about their safety protocol and whether they have a social and emotional learning program?\u00a0 She explained the school has a safety protocol and team. They do not have a social and emotional learning program however; they would love to hear more about the Jesse Lewis Choose Love PreK and Toddler program (upcoming).<\/p>\n

Many people ask: How can I can be part of the solution to create safer schools and a more peaceful world?<\/em><\/p>\n
