Sure, I subscribe to Entrepreneur magazine, but am I really an entrepreneur, or do I just run a business? Clearly a tech startup founder is an entrepreneur. But is a barber who opens up a barbershop an entrepreneur? What’s the difference? There isn’t one. If you wake up in the morning and are walking out on faith that your idea or business or storefront is going to turn a profit that day, then you are an entrepreneur. One thing we all have in common is that we never give up and we are willing to give it a shot.

Well according to SBA.gov website: https://www.sba.gov/content/what-entrepreneur

What is an Entrepreneur?

An entrepreneur is a person who organizes and manages a business undertaking, assuming the risk for the sake of profit

An entrepreneur: Sees an opportunity. Makes a plan. Starts the business. Manages the business. Receives the profits.

In my case, I’m an entrepreneur that happens to run a small, but growing business. I’m a risk taker. Everyone who has a dream of starting a business is going to have to be prepared to take some serious risks. This year, I put my entire staff on payroll. I’ve assumed the risk that we will generate sufficient business and profits to cover payroll for the team, as well as myself and the overhead (office space, equipment, utilities, etc.)

Being a risk taker is a mandatory characteristic of being an entrepreneur. Here is a great article outlining the 25 Common Characteristics of Successful Entrepreneurs. (key word: Successful)

https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/200730

Need a good boost to get your new business off the ground?
