MESSAGE FROM
THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
A Foundation of Excellence:
From Vision to Momentum
Dear Hampton Family,
As my tenure as Chairman of the Board of Trustees concludes, I reflect on our
journey together with a profound sense of gratitude. The work of this past year,
which this report celebrates, is a powerful testament to the strong foundation
we have built together. It is an honor to have served in a place that has always
inspired greatness, instilling the principles of hard work, integrity, and service that
have guided me. I am deeply proud of the groundwork we’ve laid, which includes
the strategic selection of our dynamic leader, President Darrell K. Williams.
Our collective efforts have been truly remarkable, setting a new standard for
excellence and demonstrating our readiness to launch a successful capital
campaign. The monumental achievements of the last fiscal year, including raising
$12M in philanthropic support, are a testament to our shared commitment
to elevating Hampton Excellence. Together, we have achieved phenomenal
results, with alumni giving reaching $6.5M alone, while simultaneously securing
an extraordinary $33M in research and government grants. We have also
strengthened partnerships with the National Hampton Alumni Association, Inc.
(NHAA) and other key stakeholders, igniting an alumni pride and engagement
that is stronger than ever. This collective effort has been essential in preparing for
what will be a historic capital campaign.
In a rapidly changing landscape of higher education, the need to support
Hampton—and all HBCUs—is more urgent than ever. I pass the torch of leadership
to our incoming Chairman, Michael Armstrong, with every confidence. As an
alumnus and a committed leader, I know he will guide the Board to even greater
heights of leadership and service.
Let this report serve as an inspiration, compelling each of us to double our efforts
and join hands to secure Hampton’s legacy for generations to come.
Sincerely,
Wesley Coleman ‘71
Chairman
Hampton University Board of Trustees
