Diversifying the Funding Base
In today’s evolving economic landscape, traditional funding
sources face new pressures. Hampton University is responding
with innovation, advocacy, and strategic diversification, creating a
financial model built for resilience.
Beyond campus, Hampton continues to play a leading role in
national advocacy for HBCUs. At the same time, the University is
pursuing new partnerships with corporations, foundations, and
private investors to broaden its revenue base. These collaborations,
spanning technology, healthcare, finance, and education, are
not only funding scholarships and research but also building the
foundation that supports long-term goals.

Advocacy in action! Bill Thomas, our Associate Vice President of Governmental Relations, is the
university’s chief lobbying presence. His work is essential to securing funding and legislative
support, which enables Hampton University to provide research, teaching, and service.
The Department of Physical Therapy, home to the Commonwealth of Virginia’s only accredited Doctor of Physical
Therapy program located at an HBCU, continues to set the standard for excellence through strategic investment,
student impact, and philanthropic support.

Philanthropic Support: The department secured $80,000 in
Title III funding for a new research initiative, while the Lilly
Foundation awarded scholarships to six deserving students.

to increase NPTE licensure pass rates.
Alumni Engagement: All alumni are invited to a new
series of DPT Town Hall Meetings which will kick off
in Fall 2025, strengthening mentorship and clinical
education opportunities

Department’s strong financial stewardship and
readiness for the capital campaign.
