For Caira Fields, Class of 2027, a Doctor of Physical Therapy student and Graduate
Student Executive Board Secretary, philanthropy means opportunity. A recipient of a Lilly
Foundation scholarship, Caira has been able to focus fully on her academic and clinical
training—balancing excellence in the classroom with leadership in service. Her work with
the American Red Cross and her peers reflects Hampton’s commitment to developing leaders
who serve with both skill and compassion.

The Department of Sports Science & Wellness is developing the next generation of leaders in sports management, fitness,
and wellness. Philanthropic partnerships, combined with a vibrant alumni network, create a strong foundation for long-term
financial growth and impact.

Philanthropic Support: A grant from the Little League World
Series provided funding for four student internships, giving
participants hands-on experience in event operations and
management.
Student Impact: Students logged hundreds of hours
supporting events at the Boo Williams Sportsplex, gaining
industry exposure and leadership experience.
Innovative Programs: A Student-Athlete Mental Health
Initiative, developed in partnership with local schools,
promotes wellness and resilience.

Alumni Engagement: Approximately 20 alumni, including
NBA referee Matt Myers ‘06, Eric Ford ‘08 (VP, Johnson
& Johnson), and Ese Ighedosa ‘09 (Senior Counsel, Apple
TV), returned to campus to teach, mentor, and inspire.
This dynamic integration of alumni engagement, professional
partnerships, and student opportunity enhances the
department’s visibility and demonstrates Hampton’s
readiness to sustain growth through strategic philanthropy.
