School of Engineering, Architecture & Aviation:
A Hub for Innovation
The School of Engineering, Architecture &
Aviation (SEAA) is charting the future of technical
education through strategic fundraising and
hands-on research. With $5.3 million in grants
from organizations such as the American Society
for Engineering Education (ASEE), the School
is equipping students with skills that meet the
demands of an evolving industry.
Your giving provided scholarships for half of SEAA students,
ensuring continued access and success. Through the Verizon STEM
Summer Camp, 125 local middle school students explored robotics
and 3D printing, inspiring the next generation of innovators. Alumni
remain integral, serving on the Engineering Advisory Board and
mentoring students through monthly engagements.
This powerful combination of research, outreach, and mentorship
reinforces SEAA’s role as an incubator for innovation and positions
it strongly for the capital campaign.
From the classroom to the runway. Our partnership with Washington
Dulles International Airport is creating a direct pipeline for student
success, giving our students a first-hand look at airport operations
and the future of the aviation industry.
Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry:
Forging a Future in Science
In the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, science
meets service. A generous $10,000 gift from alumnus Dr. Isai
T. Urasa ‘70, established an annual seminar series that has
already inspired 120 students through career-focused lectures
from distinguished scientists, including alumna Dr. LaTonya
Kilpatrick-Liverman ‘86.
Faculty secured funding from the NIH, NSF, and DOD to support
cutting-edge research and training initiatives, demonstrating
how fundraising and federal investment intersect to empower
learning. Alumni remain deeply connected, returning each year
to mentor and recruit new generations of scientists.
This synthesis of mentorship, innovation, and support propels
the department and its graduates into leadership roles within
the global scientific community.
