Students from the Hampton University School of Nursing provide essential services and support to the community during the annual Senior Wellness Day.
School of Nursing: Cultivating Compassionate Caregivers
The School of Nursing, the oldest nursing school in the Commonwealth of Virginia, is where compassionate care meets
cutting-edge technology. Strategic philanthropic investments have enhanced facilities and modernized programs to meet
the evolving demands of today’s healthcare landscape. A two-year, $14,000 grant from the Health Resources and Services
Administration supported a new curriculum designed to address national shortages in HIV clinical care. This year, 76 students
benefited from scholarships and hands-on learning experiences, including participation in Hampton’s Senior Wellness Day.
Innovation also continues to drive student success through the launch of a Virtual Reality Program and High-Tech Immersive
Room, offering realistic simulations that strengthen clinical skills and improve NCLEX-RN® pass rates. Nursing alumni remain
deeply engaged, mentoring students and contributing to professional development events that extend Hampton’s legacy of
excellence and community connection. Together, these investments are expanding Hampton’s capacity to prepare world-
class caregivers and positioning the University for future growth in health education and training.
Department of Counseling: A Partnership for Professional Growth
The Department of Counseling embodies Hampton’s mission
to serve humanity through education and empathy. This year,
the department expanded its partnerships and infrastructure
to better support students pursuing careers in mental health.
•
Philanthropic Support: The New York Life Foundation
provided grants for students experiencing financial
hardship following the loss of a loved one.
•
Student Impact: New partnerships with private providers
and school systems increased internship and practicum
opportunities.
•
Innovative Programs: Faculty and students represented
Hampton at the Virginia Counselor Association
Conference, expanding professional networks.
•
Alumni Engagement: Alumni such as Dr. Chelsea
Washington ‘96, ‘14 delivered guest lectures, guiding
doctoral students on self-care and resilience.
Through philanthropy and partnership, the department
is creating sustainable systems that strengthen both
Hampton’s academic infrastructure and its community
of care.
